Spring rough treatment

Work has started to remove thatchy material from the base of the turf in the main rough areas. We purchased the terra rake tool to rip out dead grass and moss from the surface. Large quantities of thatch have been removed as shown in the picture. This has been picked up using the super 500 flail. All the main rough areas that frame each hole will be treated like this and some selected spraying with rescue will follow to eradicate some Yorkshire fog grass that is still present in the sward.

Pitch marks

It was very disappointing to see the number of unrepaired pitch marks this morning on the greens. The surface is still a little soft after the winter months but we are dressing every 10 days with sand to firm up the turf. Producing a quality surface on greens is our main aim at the moment but it is disheartening to see golfers walking away from ball marks that  will ultimately lead to dead spots in the next few weeks.

Beautiful morning on Balgownie links.

Nice crisp sunshine over the links today. Course being prepared for the weekend with a roll to the greens and approaches to smooth the surface after the mini tining  that was done earlier in the week.

Air 2 G2

Air 2 g2 machine working on some of the older greens to break up some deep seated compaction. We have done six greens 5,6,7,14,16,17 plus the putting green. There is no surface disturbance with this machine.

On course toilet.

Landscaping work has been completed on the mounding around the new on course toilet. Velvet broom was planted along side marram picked from the Dunes. The turf underneath is pure fescue which will come up to around 18 inches in height and create a natural screen for the building.

Fairway top dressing

Another application of sand dressed onto the fairways. Lighter at the moment until we get some more growth. 5-6 ton per fairway and then brushed in.
